Jennifer DeRoche Christian is a freelance harpist and harp teacher in the Madison area. She grew up in the Milwaukee area and often returns to Milwaukee to visit family. Jenny attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she graduated with a BM in instrumental and general music education. In the past, she has studied with Jeanne Henderson and Karen Atz. In 2022, she obtained her Masters at UW-Madison in educational leadership and policy analysis with an emphasis in social justice. Jenny is currently an elementary music teacher in the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District.
Jenny has been performing wedding ceremonies, gigs, and events since early high school and late middle school. In the past, she has performed events for weddings, local antique shows, the annual Milwaukee Breast Cancer Showhouse, private parties, at local business openings, and at various church events. She has also performed with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Madison Ballet, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Beloit Janesville Symphony, and Middleton Community Orchestra.
When she is not performing, Jenny absolutely loves teaching harp students! Teaching students is Jenny’s passion. Jenny runs a thriving private harp studio from her home on the near West side of Madison. She has experience working with students of all ages, along with students with special needs. Jenny’s day time position is working with elementary music students in a local school district, but she has worked with high school and middle school students extensively with private lessons, at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Summer Music Clinic, and at Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra as harp ensemble/harp program director. She also has experience with working with adult students with the UW-Madion Community Music lessons and private lessons. Jenny works with both lever harp and pedal harpists and students of all levels. She currently has small lever harps available for rent for students taking lessons with her.
